$12k 82k miles. I never knew much about this car but it seems impressive. Good looking interior from the pictures and 0-60 in 5.4 seconds with AWD. Seems like a larger more practical WRX.
Anyone have one of these? How is the reliability after 100,000 miles? How is the reliability in general?

I wish I could help you. Good luck on finding out what to expect. My gut reaction is to say that a mazda with 82k at 12,000 asking is too much, even if it's a Mazdaspeed 6. It's an under-the-radar car. If you're looking for fun that no one else knows about it might be the ticket. But, a larger more practical WRX is probably more likely a Legacy GT in terms of being closer engineering wise. Think those were had with the WRX engine.

Take this for what it is. I was a Mazda guy first, a BMW guy second, and as people tell me I'm soon to be a Saab guy. Mazda hold a special place in my heart, I might be tempted to pay that for this car. I wanted one when they came out, but life. Any time you pay "too much" for a car, you need to really want it. Any car will break. If you grow to love it, it will break your heart along with your wallet.

Most people who I've seen owning these, like them. Don't expect it to ever be a evo or WRX killer though

Stock unabused well taken care of examples are nice to find. $12k is what this car was going for several years ago though, not sure if its worth that now.

The driveline in these is pretty weak, so if abused they do break. Early '06 models had a weak connecting rod issue. Turbo oil seals blow. Lack of oil changes easily crud up the turbo's oil lines. Transfer case seals leak. Rear diff seals leak.

Brakes are bespoke, but the aftermarket finally has some inexpensive options.

Uhhhhh trying to think of what else (I work for a Mazda dealer) but I just woke up. :)

From what I gathered on a test drive of one of these last year, it's like this:

-Fast, like faster than you think it's going to be maybe

-Weird clutch action, because Mazda

-Slightly chintzy-feeling interior? That could have just been the condition of the specific car I drove

For what it's worth, after test-driving the MS6 against a 328i (with a manual), I went with the BMW. Then I sold that a year later because it was a total basket-case. So you can't win! Merry Christmas!

Check out mazdaspeedforums.org. Anything you could ever need to know will be found there.

This would be a good place to start. http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/forum/f589/off…

I owned an '06 for just under 5 years. Got rid of it this past summer because of rust problems. If I were to sum up the car, it's very fun, has too many interior rattles, handles pretty damn good stock and becomes amazing with a few suspension tweaks (it needs more negative camber in the front...lowering springs, front camber kits and a good alignment do the trick)—BUT they have rust problems.

You might be ok being down in Texas. I live in Wisconsin. But still, there's no excuse for a 2006 model year car that was never in any kind of accident to have rust in the rear wheel wells, front strut towers, passenger side back door skin, and around the windshield. Pic is of my car before I got rid of it.

Heh, you're in Austin? That's the dealer that had a Boxster I kept sort of drooling at while I was waiting to hear if my car was totaled or not.

No experience with the MS6—too rare, I guess. These need to be less rare. They're cool.
